Ohio television station WTOL is reporting that workers at a Jeep assembly plant have met with UAW President Shawn Fain to express their frustration at the more than 1,400 layoffs that leave them scrambling to find a new job during the holidays.
The workers at the Toledo Assembly Complex and related facilities were recently warned they will no longer have a job starting in the new year. Following a private meeting with UAW President Shawn Fain, some said they did not get answers to their pressing questions.
“I want my union dues back,” six-year veteran employee Kamari Whitaker told Channel 11 in Toledo. “I paid way too much to get nothing in the end.”
Whitaker said she recently moved from a part-time to a full-time position only to be laid off.
In addition to the Toledo Assembly Complex, the permanent or indefinite layoffs will affect workers at Mobis North America and KUKA.
