The Guardian newspaper is reporting that the United Auto Workers union has been formally accused of unfair labor practices by unionized staff who work for the UAW.
Staff workers who are members of the UAW Staff United union have filed charges against the UAW for bad-faith bargaining, withholding information, and retaliating against one of their members by failing to renew the contract of organizer Alex Chan.
The UAWSU was formed last March and has been negotiating with the UAW for over a year with no contract in sight, the newspaper reports.
UAW Staff United says the UAW has slowed the collective bargaining process and failed to come to terms on core issues like economics, job security, and the grievance process.
The Guardian reports that the unionized staff members say they have been “shot down” when requesting basic improvements in their relationship to the UAW.
