UA, AU to UAW: Cease and Desist

YellowhammerNews.com is reporting the University of Alabama and Auburn University have sent a “cease and desist” letter to the UAW for what it says are infringements on their trademarks. The statement, issued jointly by the two universities reads, in part:

“The United Auto Workers are currently infringing on the intellectual property rights of The University of Alabama and Auburn University by using our trademarks without our endorsement or permission.

“UAW has been explicitly instructed to stop improperly using our trademarks in their campaign (e.g., on their website, stickers, t-shirts, etc.). Both institutions will continue to take all necessary action to protect our intellectual property rights.”

In its cease and desist letter, Auburn University demanded “that all items depicting the AU Mark be provided to Auburn University to ensure that are no longer being distributed or used.”

The items were designed to promote pro-union support on the upcoming vote at MBUSI.
