Fain Investigated for Demanding Benefits

The Wall Street Journal and al.com have reported that a court-appointed watchdog is investigating whether UAW President Shawn Fain made demands of the union that would benefit his domestic partner and a family member.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the investigation is looking into whether Fain’s decision to remove UAW Vice President Rich Boyer from his job as the top negotiator with automaker Stellantis was related to the alleged demands.

Independent monitor Neil Barofsky was charged by U.S. District Judge David Lawson (Eastern District of Michigan) with ensuring compliance with a 2020 Consent Decree, which resulted from a corruption investigation that led to former union leaders going to prison.
