Among the many promises union organizers make is the assurance that a union contract will give workers better vacation and retirement policies.
But like every promise they make during the campaign process, they can’t back it up. Why?
Because in the collective bargaining process, everything is on the table. Nothing is guaranteed.
Which means you could end up with more favorable vacation policies. Or, they could be not as attractive as the policies you currently enjoy.
The same is true of attendance rules and policies. And wages. And benefits.
The law says unions can promise anything–even things they know they cannot deliver. But the company cannot promise anything.
Don’t be taken in by hollow union promises. They may promise you a day at the beach, but it’s just one more thing they may not deliver.
