Workers at a hydraulic tooling company in Mt. Clemens, Michigan have successfully decertified the UAW at their workplace, according to a story on the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation website.
An employee at Hydra-Lock Corp. submitted a petition, on behalf of himself and fellow employees, to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). A majority of workers at the facility signed the petition to rid themselves of UAW Local 155.
The NLRB conducted an election, and those seeking to decertify the union prevailed.
In 2023, Michigan legislators voted to repeal the state’s Right to Work law, which meant Hydra-Lock employees were required to pay union dues. The repeal took effect in February of 2024.
Decertification of the UAW means workers at the tooling company are no longer represented by the union and do not have to pay dues.
