The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the U.S. Department of Justice has begun an investigation into the actions of UAW President Shawn Fain.
The probe comes after a federal Monitor’s Report found Fain retaliated against his own Vice President, Rich Boyer, when Boyer refused to approve bonuses at the Stellantis National Training Center that would have benefited Fain’s fiancée who works there.
Fain’s fiancée, Keesha McConaghie is a financial analyst at the training center and stood to receive additional compensation from the bonuses Boyer refused to approve.
The Monitor, in his 16th Report, found Fain unfairly retaliated against Boyer, stripping him of his oversight of the union’s Stellantis Department.
The Monitor’s Report reads, in part:
“The Monitor’s investigation substantiated the claim that President Fain acted improperly to obtain financial benefits for his fiancee, and that Vice President Boyer’s failure to approve the bonus may have contributed to Fain’s retaliatory action against him.”
Fain insists the charges are “bogus allegations” designed to help Boyer win this fall’s UAW officer elections, in which the Vice President is opposing Fain for the union presidency.
In 2024, Fain offered to fight the federal Monitor, attorney Neil Barofsky, in front of the UAW headquarters building in Detroit during an expletive-laden exchange between the two.
